False Wisdom Versus True Wisdom

Feb 4, 2024    Daniel Englehart

This week as we continue in our study through the book of James we consider James 3:13-18. James shows how wisdom is exemplified and demonstrated. He teaches us that wisdom and understanding is shown good conduct in the meekness of wisdom (v. 13). He then compares the essence and effect of false wisdom with the essence and effect of true wisdom. False wisdom has bitter jealously and selfish ambition in the roots and yields the fruit of disorder and evil vile practice (v. 16). True wisdom however, "the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere" (v. 17). Those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness (v. 18).
