Their Heart Is False

Mar 29, 2026    Daniel Englehart

This morning we continue in our study through the book of Hosea as we consider Hosea 10:1-15. The prophet writes, "Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt" (Hosea 10:2a). Israel is compared to a luxuriant vine and a well-trained calf. The more Israel grew, the more his fruit increased, the more idolatry and wickedness they committed. While Israel was given freedom, they abused God's kindness and grace and therefore must be disciplined. The problem for the people of Israel is that their heart is false. Their hearts are devious, deceitful, faithless, or divided. If we don't recognize, acknowledge, and confess that our heart is false, we will turn from the deepest and purest source of transformation. Our self-righteousness will keep us from what is most true, good, and beautiful. This morning we’ll consider the reality of the false heart, the new heart that Jesus gives, and what it looks like to live in light of that new heart by faith in him.
