Elders

This week as we conclude our three part study on The Church, we consider the topic of elders. From 1 Peter 5:1-4 we see that elders have been called to the following:

1) They are entrusted with caring for and teaching the flock of God

2) They are to exercise oversight, watching over the souls of the church, protecting and guarding the members

3) They serve as examples of Christ-like character, virtue, and devotion

Pastors/overseers/elders serve as under-shepherds to the Chief Shepherd. True and faithful elders will help the church hear, understand, and follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd. We pray that God would raise up faithful elders who are entrusted with teaching and caring for the church, exercise gentle, gracious, and present oversight, and serve as examples to the flock.
