Rejoice and Remember

Aug 4, 2024    Daniel Englehart

This morning as we continue in our study through the book of Ecclesiastes, we consider Ecclesiastes 11:1-10. The Preacher of Ecclesiastes teaches that life is uncertain. We don't know what is going to happen. We don't know what business endeavors will succeed and which ones will fail. We don't know everything that God does in the world. We don't know when the days of darkness will arrive or what disaster may happen on earth. With these realities of life in mind, we are invited to rejoice and remember. We can rejoice in whatever age or season that we're in because life is a gift. We can remember that there are uncertainties of life and we are unable to control what happens in life.

We can respond to the text by rejoicing and remembering. Ultimately the reason to rejoice is grounded in the person and work of Jesus. We can show the difference that Jesus makes as we rejoice in the gospel. We don't want to forget that life is uncertain, we are dependent upon Jesus, and life is a gift to be enjoyed for the glory of God.
