Love the LORD Your God
Today we continue in our study through the Shema as we consider the phrase, "You shall love the LORD your God" from Deuteronomy 6:5. Through the text we explore what it means to love God, why we don't love God and need to be reminded to love, and how the person and work of Jesus activates love for God. Love is a feeling of genuine affection. It involves deep care for another. Love is not simply a feeling, it's also something that you choose to do. It's a commitment and an allegiance of loyalty.
Our love for God is a response to His love. We want to grow in understanding and experiencing what it means to be loved by God as we deepen in our knowledge of the gospel. In the gospel we are reminded how much we are loved by God in our forgiveness and our acceptance. Jesus teaches us those who are forgiven little, love little, while those who are forgiven much, love much.
