Faithful with the Sacred Writings

Nov 10, 2024    Daniel Englehart

This morning we continue in our study through the second letter of Paul to Timothy as we consider 2 Timothy 3:10-17. In contrast to the false teacher, the Apostle Paul encourages Timothy to follow his teaching, conduct, aim, faith, patience, love, and endurance. Paul calls Timothy to be faithful with the Sacred Writings, the Holy Scriptures. To be faithful with the Sacred Writings we can do the following:

1) We continue in learning from them and growing in knowledge. We don't move on from the Bible, but rather move deeper into knowledge and obedience to it.

2) We read and teach them along the designed grain of making us wise for salvation through faith in Jesus. We read the Bible as a story that points to Jesus.

3) We believe the divine origin of the Sacred Writings as the inspired Word of God and cherish the purpose to teach, rebuke, correct, and train us in righteousness that we would be completed, equipped for every good work.
