The End of the Age

This morning we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 24:1-51. The text this morning could be grouped into three main sections. In verses 1-14, we see the signs of the end of the age and persecution predicted. In verses 15-35, we see the abomination of desolation and great tribulation. In verses 36-51, we see Jesus teach on the day and hour of his return. Jesus promises his disciples persecution, tribulation and distress, and his return at an hour they will not expect. In light of Jesus' return, his disciples are to be prepared. They are to be alert and not alarmed. They are not to be led astray or fall asleep. Jesus' disciples are to be awake, living as wise and faithful servants.
