Members of One Another

Nov 12, 2023    Daniel Englehart

Today we being a three part series on the church. This morning we consider the question of "What does it mean to be a member of the body of Christ?" We explore Roman 12:3-8 that describes the body of Christ. "For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another" (Romans 12:4-5). We believe being a member of the body of Christ means:

1) We believe in Jesus and His Word

2) We belong to Jesus and His Church

3) We build one another up with our spiritual gifts

4) We bear witness to Jesus

We believe one of the ways we can bear witness to the power of the gospel and unity of the Spirit is through committing ourselves to a local body or expression of the church in membership. This looks like practicing the "one another" commands of the New Testament, submitting to Christ's leaders of His church, and regularly meeting together for worship and fellowship. We believe commitment to a local church is a way to show our appreciation for Jesus and his commitment to give himself up for his church.
