The Rebellion of Sheba

Nov 13, 2022    Daniel Englehart

As we continue in our study of Samuel, this morning we consider 2 Samuel 20:1-26. A man named Sheba revolts against King David and leads the tribes of Judah to withdraw. Joab and his men pursue Sheba to the town of Abel. A faithful and peaceable wise woman, saves her city from destruction and ends Sheba's rebellion. The story points forward to Jesus, the faithful and peaceful one in Israel who saves His people from destruction. Jesus, however, doesn't cut off the heads of his enemies, but gives up his own life in their place. God does not treat us as we deserve, but extends grace and kindness to rebels like us. From his love and kindness we can be changed to grow in peace and righteousness. "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." - Romans 14:17
